Philosophy: The Love of Wisdom

January 20, 2022

Philosophy is a search for wisdom, not a study of knowledge. The word “philosophy” originally meant love of wisdom. It was originally a branch of philosophy which dealt with the ultimate nature of reality and existence. In contemporary use, philosophy has been divided into many subfields, including ontology, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics and logic, etc. Many people would consider themselves philosophers without being academically trained in the field. Philosophy requires us to think about our lives and ask ourselves questions about what we believe to be true.

The question “What is the meaning of life?” is one that can be answered through philosophy. This article will teach you everything you need to know to get started on your journey as a philosopher!

Who is a philosopher

A philosopher can be referred to as a deep thinker who is on a quest to know how, when, where and mostly why. A philosopher takes established views and challenges them while appealing to logic and reason. Philosophers often have a strong interest in religion, science and spirituality.

What is philosophy?

In a broad sense, philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other.

What is the meaning of life?

One of the most important questions that philosophy asks is "What is the meaning of life?" Philosophers like Plato and Socrates took this question very seriously. They believed that contemplating our own mortality was one way to understand it.

Philosophers believe that the very essence of life and its meaning is the pursuit of knowledge: knowledge about the real world that is constantly applied, tested, and proven to be fundamentally true. What works and is essentially found to be 'true', is kept and perpetuated, while the rest is discarded and let go as being false. A philosopher seeks to aquire as much timeless knowledge as possible within their lifetime.

Why study philosophy?

We all have questions. Whether it's about the meaning of life or death, happiness or sadness, right and wrong, love or hatred - we are always asking ourselves vital questions. There are many ways for us to answer these questions - science is one way, religion is another. But there are also philosophers who have spent their lives pondering these questions with a spirituality based approach.

Philosophy is an important way of exploring our beliefs about ultimate reality and our human condition in order to be more informed in our understanding of the world around us. Philosophy requires us to think about our lives and contemplate questions about what we believe to be true.

Getting started with philosophy

One of the first things you’ll need to do is define your goals. Why are you interested in philosophy? What are you trying to learn about? This will help point you in the right direction. If you want to know more about what makes something good, for example, then it would be important to explore discussions on ethics.

Next, find a language that works best for you. There are many different philosophical languages which you can use! Some people may understand more easily through words while others may prefer pictures or movies. After defining what type of language works best for you, start reading and formulating questions about what you read.

Lastly, start writing, take note! Start by writing down your thoughts on what you read or watch and then challenge yourself with questions that come up as a result of your readings or thought process. You can always come back to referance your notes for further study and comprehension.

Read some philosophical books

Reading is one of the best ways to learn about philosophy. There are many great philosophers who have written some magnificent books on the subject. These books will help you to start thinking philosophically and answer your questions on life.

Think about your own life and look for questions you have that can be answered philosophically.

To start off, you may have never considered philosophy as a way to answer questions. Think about your own life and look for questions you have that can be answered philosophically. Maybe you want to know the meaning of life or what’s the point of living. These are philosophical questions that can be addressed through philosophy. You also have to keep in mind that not every question has been answered by philosophers before, so you may find yourself asking new questions too and finding new answers! That is all a part of the grand scheme of why we are here.
